چکیده

This paper explains the theoretical and practical objectives of infosense, a studio for designing interactive experiences in sensate space. Spaces embedded with sensing capabilities for gathering information about users form a new design phenomenon that requires strategies for developing responsive, interactive visual and sonic displays. The infosense studio exposed students to a range of intelligent building, art installation, generative design and information visualization concepts. This paper investigates the ways in which students applied this knowledge in a constructivist learning framework to create smart, sensing spaces. Furthermore, it shows how practical experimentation, team collaboration and innovative mozdes of interaction were fostered, and demonstrates the way in which frontier scientific developments influenced students’ creative practice and conceptual ideas by explaining a number of student designs. The aim of this paper is to provide inspiration and experiences for others who may be interested in teaching design studios in which digital and interactive technologies unify interdisciplinary artistic and scientific design knowledge. Conference Theme: Contexts of Architecture
